Alumni Skills Database & Employment Assistance Project

FGC Kano USA Alumni - E-learning Initiative Group

Introduction

BondThe Alumni Skills Database and Employment Assistance is another initiative proposed during the Town Hall meeting at the Las Vegas reunion of FGC Kano USA Alumni in September 2010. Alumni of FGC Kano are not immune from the current economic challenges and high unemployment numbers across the globe.

FrancisThe primary goal of this initiative is to help facilitate the matching of well trained and highly skilled alumni of Federal Government College Kano with available job opportunities across the globe. We are our best advocates, and with a database where we can post both job openings and alumni skills and profiles, placement of well qualified and competent Alumni in positions will be more easily accomplished.

FrancisWhile some alumni are employers of labour, some are referrers of labour, either through direct employment in the case of the employers, or by referring known opportunities in an alumni’s workplace to other qualified alumni. We are our brothers and sisters keepers, and we become stronger as a body when all of us are gainfully employed. It is our hope that this tool will facilitate our ability to achieve gainful employment for majority of our Alumni.

Our Mission

To propose and develop a fully integrated Skills and profile database, to be complemented with some coordinated employment assistance program that will enable FGC Kano alumni seeking employment to be matched with posted job openings across the globe.

Our Objectives:

The Alumni Skills database and employment assistance group have been tasked with the following objectives:

  • To provide a platform for job seekers to post their profiles and skills sets as well as the job positions they are seeking.
  • To provide a platform for employers of labor or referrers of labor, to post job openings
  • To provide functionality to enable the search of the database by skills sets, industry, job type, location (Country, State, Local Government etc) etc, to facilitate the “best fit” of alumnus career and life aspirations with available opportunities.
  • Facilitate interactive communication between Alumni Job seekers and employers or referrers of labour
  • Enable the sharing/exchanging of information and posting of useful links.

Our Immediate Next Steps:

  • Carry out due diligence on the feasibility and viability of the project.
  • Identify all stakeholders and sensitize them, including all alumni as well as the employers of labor amongst us, and get a buy in to the project.
  • Measure interest and commitment to the project by involving elected representatives from FGC Kano alumni association chapters. This will not work without participation of all alumni, both employers and job seekers.
  • Investigate and get input from members on how to make the system usable and relevant to their everyday job search process.
  • Identify relevant technology, cost + Timeline + roll out plan
  • Present our findings to the Alumni body on the feasibility of the project.
