Fellow Alumni,
With profound gratitude, I exalt all the guys and gals from Federal Government College Kano Alumni body, both home and abroad, who responded to the call for help from one of our own. Together...
TOWN HALL MEETING AGENDA - REQUEST FOR INPUT
Fellow Alumni,
Our committee has been charged with setting the Town Hall agenda, for the upcoming Federal Government College, Kano reunion in Las Vegas. It is our expectation that at the end of the reunion, we will have clearly defined Mission, Goals and Strategies on what we need to do, and how we can make our association more responsive to the needs of our Alma Mater, and FGC Kano alumni around the globe.
We are hereby soliciting ideas from every alumnus, and trust that this matter will be given adequate attention and interest.
As a teaser, we have researched several initiatives that have been adopted by other school alumni organizations around the world. While some may appear farfetched, others seem practicable.
At this point however, no idea is implausible. We are accepting long term initiatives, which should serve to define our vision of where the association should be headed in the next 10 years. We are also seeking immediate term initiatives, or "low hanging fruits" which would be easier to implement, and potentially generate the quickest and greatest impact on our alma mater and organization in the short term.
Some of the immediate term initiatives we are looking at include the following:
1. The adoption of e-learning at our alma mater, with online access to global curriculum that is world standard. This should mitigate the current decline in the standard of curriculum and instruction at our Alma Mater.
2. The participation, where feasible, in the management of the school's affairs, either in an advisory capacity, or through direct management of the school, by placing alumni at the helm of affairs.
3. Welfare of members. Caring and fostering good and harmonious relationship amongst members.
Additionally, we want to be visionary, and explore ways we can leverage our collective wisdom and diverse experiences to develop longer term initiatives that will be financially beneficial to both our Alma Mater and FGC Kano Alumni Associations.
Some long term ideas that have been advanced thus far include:
Alumni Initiatives
1. The set up of a business forum and "Think Tank" for the generation and sharing of business and entrepreneurial ideas.
2. The set up and operation of a Credit Union.
3. The set up of a time share facility for the use of Alumni that choose to participate.
School Initiatives
1. The set up of foundations that will provide scholarships to academically gifted students of Federal Government College Kano
2. The direct takeover of school, where the opportunity presents itself, and the injection of sound management, and resources in a turnaround effort
We concede that while the longer objectives are laudable, they require a lot more resources and planning. However, at this planning stage, no idea is off the table. We are seeking your input!
Send in your ideas on how we can advance the collective interests of our Association and its members around the globe. Additionally, please advance your ideas beyond merely stating them, but articulate clearly, how you think this will work, and how we can pay for it.
Our objective is to have, at the end of the reunion, concrete goals and strategies for advancing the collective interests of all members of FGC Kano Alumni and our dear Alma Mater.

Creation of digital textbooks. - idea by Mr Varghese
Here is an idea worth exploring-
=======================================
"In California, a state board is studying whether open texts meet state requirements. The CK-12 Foundation, a nonprofit financed by another Sun co-founder, Vinod Khosla, has created several texts that have met the board’s criteria.
“In three and a half years, we have developed nine of the core textbooks for high school,” says Neeru Khosla, Mr. Khosla’s wife and the head of CK-12. “If you don’t try this, nothing will change.”
